Salenga’s ‘A’ sample positive for banned stimulant 0
Dainius Salenga will be forced to take a step away from the basketball court in the nearest future. The 33-year-old Zalgiris Kaunas forward is suspected of using a banned stimulant after an ‘A’ sample indicated a positive result.
The player’s current club, Zalgiris Kaunas, has been notified by the FIBA General Secretary Patrick Baumann, that Salenga’s doping test was positive after a Euroleague game against Khimki on the road in Moscow on the December 23, 2010. The doping control officers found Methylhexaneamine, which was added to the banned substance list in 2009, in the veteran’s urine test.
“We have never tolerated such things and will never do. As a club, we distance ourselves from any involvement in these breaches of doping control. We are sure, that the team doctor did not give Salenga any banned substances,” said the General Director of the club Paulius Motiejunas, who wasn’t sure about the players future in the club.
FIBA prohibited Salenga to play both in international and domestic games and allowed ten days counting from January 6 to take a ‘B’ sample, which could be used later in the investigation. If the player was to decide not to take a secondary test, the results from the ‘A’ sample will be final.
“Further tests will show the final results, but Salenga will not be working with the team for the time being. It‘s difficult to predict, what could happen in the future,” Motiejunas said.
