Zalgiris defeats Vytautas in offensive-minded game 5
It was an offensive-minded scoring fest in Prienai, as LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball combined for 44 points but couldn’t prevent Vytautas from a large 118-96 defeat to Zalgiris.
After building a double-digit lead in the first quarter of the contest, the defending Betsafe LKL champions kept a safe distance the rest of the way and improved to a 20-2 record.
Despite setting a new league record with 19 made three-pointers, the Virginijus Seskus-coached hosts simply didn’t have enough on the defensive end of the court to stay competitive.
Zalgiris youngster Gytis Masiulis led the victors in scoring with 17 points, Axel Toupane added 14, while Edgaras Ulanovas and former NBA player Beno Udrih collected 13 points apiece.
Having knocked down six three-pointers, LiAngelo Ball was the game’s leading scorer with 25 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field, with LaMelo Ball chipping in with 19 points and 6 assists.
Vytautas veteran Justas Sinica also added 19 points.
Despite the entertaining style of play, the Prienai-Birstonas club couldn’t stop the bleeding in the Betsafe LKL, suffering their ninth consecutive defeat and dropping to a league-worst 4-18 mark.
