Zalgiris will start the season in Tallinn 0

Zalgiris Kaunas looks to start the 2019-2020 season in Tallinn on 8 September, as they will take on Estonian champion Kalev/Cramo in Saku Suurhall.

“Zalgiris is happy to play in Tallinn again. Over the past seasons, we have received a lot of support from Estonia, thousands of Estonian fans have come to Zalgirio Arena to watch us play. We want to give something in return to our Estonian supporters, and a smashing show in Tallinn, in the home of our fans will be the perfect gift,” Zalgiris director Paulius Motiejunas said.

The club’s sports director Robertas Javtokas was excited and hoped for an entertaining start of preparations for the new season.

“A proper preparation for a new season is always important and the match with Kalev/Cramo will be an essential part of that. We are looking forward to a warm welcome in Tallinn, a great atmosphere and a game that meets all the expectations.”

Kalev/Cramo representative Remo Holsmer admitted that the aim of the club was to continue building on last season’s achievements (VTB Playoffs, Final Four of Latvian-Estonian League and champions of Estonia) and playing competitive, team basketball at the highest level possible.

“We are eagerly looking forward to the chance to play against Zalgiris in front of our home fans. Taking on a EuroLeague-caliber team is a great challenge and games like these provide a lot of motivation to the entire team and especially the young players. The game against EuroLeague champions CSKA Moscow, nearly sold out the entire Saku Suurhall, and we hope to see just as many people at the Zalgiris game.”

Zalgiris is familiar to Estonian basketball fans of all ages, as they have faced Tallinn Kalev and other Estonian clubs numerous times throughout the course of history, having squared up both in the Soviet Union championships and the Baltic Basketball League.

The game is set for the 8th of September in Saku Suurhall, with the tip-off at 17:00. Doors open at 16:00.
