Alex Perez introduces himself to Zalgiris: “I will leave my heart on the floor” 0

Zalgiris will have a new floor general this upcoming season, and Alex Perez is looking to become the man to lead the green-and-whites in all fronts. The 26-year-old flew to Lithuania straight from California and has already had the chance to get acquainted with his new home.

The guard, who holds both the Mexican and American nationalities, had his first interview as a Zalgiris player, as he spoke to Zalgiris TV about the latest turn in his career.

“Honestly, I’ve been thinking about Zalgiris for a couple of years, since I played in Riga. I got familiar with the team, the coach. A lot of people were telling me that it’d be a good fit in the next couple of years. When it finally happened, I was excited.”

Perez had his first shot at European basketball back in the 2017-2018 season, as he made his debut for VEF Riga. Last season the player moved to Turkey, where he played for Banvit in the premier Turkish league and the FIBA Basketball Champions League. In his two seasons in Europe, the Mexican National Team guard has had the chance to go up against European powerhouses such as CSKA Moscow, Fenerbahce and Anadolu Efes.

“Obviously, the level is higher, but I think I showed when I played CSKA, Efes, Fenerbahce, I played well and I was prepared. Every year is a new challenge. I am going to take it as it goes, be confident and work. I will leave my heart on the floor for Zalgiris.”

The basketball player was happy to receive welcoming messages and attention from the fans once he signed for the club, and is looking forward to getting into the season as soon as possible.

“It’s awesome. As soon as I signed, I got followers, I got messages. I’m super excited – not just for the EuroLeague, LKL, everything.”
