#ZalgirisVirgin. Kaspars Kambala remembers his battles against Zalgiris 1

Zalgiris Kaunas continues its traditional #ZalgirisVirgin initiative, inviting Zalgiris fans to finally experience their first Zalgiris game in person in Kaunas‘ Zalgirio Arena.

One of the people who was seen in Zalgirio Arena recently was Latvian basketball legend Kaspars Kambala, who ended up playing one of his last EuroLeague games here in Kaunas, only in the Kaunas Sports Hall.

“If I remember correctly, my last game in the EuroLeague was against Zalgiris, when I played for Fenerbahce and we beat them here. That happened in the old arena. “

The long-tenured Latvian national basketball team player had nothing but good words for the atmosphere and the fans in Zalgirio Arena.

“The fans here are really knowledgable, they grow up with basketball, they come to the games. They know what basketball is supposed to be like. It‘s always great to play here. The atmosphere here… The fans are really great – you rarely get to see this kind of atmosphere.”

The man who traded a basketball for boxing gloves late in his career admitted that one of his childhood basketball heroes was Arvydas Sabonis. The Lithuanian big man was the reason for picking number 11 early in his career.

“I remember more from the soviet times, watching Zalgiris and Sabonis on TV. My first jersey number was 11. I was watching him and his hook shot, and I believe my hook shot was the one of the best in Europe after Sabas. When I was young, I watched a lot of his games and wanted to be like him.”

First-time visitors of Zalgirio Arena can purchase the #ZalgirisVirgin package, are invited to group meetings, where they can meet fans and experience everything Zalgirio Arena has to offer.
