Dovydas Giedraitis joins Zalgiris on long-term deal 4
Zalgiris Kaunas announced one more addition to the team. The green-and-whites have agreed to a contract with Dovydas Giedraitis, with the two sides putting signatures on a 3+2 deal.
The 21-year-old, standing at 193 cm tall, was under contract with with Estudiantes Madrid for the last five years, spending last season on loan with Lietkabelis Panevezys.
“Zalgiris is always on the lookout for young and talented Lithuanian players, and when we look at Dovydas, we see great potential. We believe that he will continue to progress rapidly as he moves up to the next level, so we were very keen to see him in Kaunas,” noted Zalgiris Director Paulius Motiejunas.
Giedraitis was also delighted with the new stop in his career and the long-term contract.
“Playing for Zalgiris will be another big step in my career. I would like to thank the club and the coaches for their trust, I feel a great responsibility to show my best,” the defender told the club’s website.
Besides the Lithuanian league, the talented guard also played in the EuroCup last season, where he averaged 8.6 points and 1.7 assists in 25 minutes of action, shooting right over 40% from long range throughout the season.
In the local championship, Zalgiris latest signing had similar numbers, averaging 8 points and 2.5 assists per game.
After last season, the player underwent a successful ankle ligament reconstruction surgery, which will force him to miss the start of the pre-season.
“The surgery went well, but we still need some time. I’m eager to start practicing at full strength and fight for my minutes,” said the rookie.
