Kevarrius Hayes will join Zalgiris Kaunas practice for the first time this week today, which will determine his availability against Baskonia Vitoria tomorrow.

Zalgiris Kaunas center Kevarrius Hayes suffered an ankle injury on Friday in a EuroLeague game against EA7 Emporio Armani Milan. He didn’t play in the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) on Sunday as well.

With Zalgiris travelling to Spain for double-week matches against Baskonia Vitoria and Valencia Basket, the team faces the issue of battling against two tough teams without their main frontcourt player.

Hayes will be travelling with the team though but his appearance on the court will depend on his performance before the match in Vitoria.

“Kevarrius is flying with the team. We’ve been healing him for the last several days, we’re planning to get him involved in practice for the first time today,” head coach Kazys Maksvytis said in a press conference. “We hope that he will join successfully and will be ready for tomorrow.”

“He’s not ready 100% but he shows big desire and all his good personal qualities,” the coach explained. “He wants to come back, and we’re expecting him to.”

Hayes has been averaging 5.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 1.5 blocks for 9.1 PIR per game.
