Tyler Cavanaugh undergoes back surgery 2

Despite initially opting for a more conservative treatment, Zalgiris Kaunas forward Tyler Cavanaugh did not avoid back surgery. The Zalgiris player felt pain in his back mid-December, and finally needed surgical intervention.

The forward is expected to miss at least 3 months of basketball after the successful surgery that was performed by neurosurgeon Bronius Spakauskas.

“We would like to thank Dr. Spakauskas for the successful surgery. Although we tried conservative methods of treatment with Tyler, in the end it turned out that the surgery could not be avoided. The player will start his rehabilitation in 8 days. If it goes according to plan, we could expect Tyler’s return to the court at the end of April,” said Zalgiris Kaunas doctor Vytautas Kailius.

Cavanaugh has played 14 games this EuroLeague season, scoring 5.9 points and grabbing 4.3 rebounds.

On the national stage in the Betsafe-LKL, the American put up 7.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.
