Zalgiris tabs 20th win by downing Gargzdai 2

Zalgiris Kaunas (20/4), coached by Kazys Maksvytis, won yet another battle in the Betsafe-LKL Championship. The Kaunas team defeated Gargzdai (5/19) 96-70 on the Zalgirio Arena hardwood.

The opening of the game seemed be all green-and-white, as the hosts went out to a 15-7 lead early on. Nevertheless, a 9-0 run for the visiting side turned the tables around, as Gargzdai snuck ahead. Their lead didn’t last long, as Zalgiris finished the quarter on a hot run to regain momentum and an eight-point lead, 27-19.

The guests didn’t make it easy on Zalgiris, and came running right back, as they narrowed the margin to just one, before Isaiah Taylor dropped a long-range shot to give the Kaunas team a 4-point lead before the break.

The tides changed after halftime, and Zalgiris came out scorching. A 29-14 third quarter allowed the hosts to build up an insurmountable lead, as 19 points now separated the two opponents.

Zalgiris made sure there was no comeback in the works with another solid quarter, with some of the younger players getting a chance to shine as well.

Tomas Dimsa put up 14 points alongside 5 boards and 4 assists, as Achille Polonara added another well-rounded stat-line of 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Dovydas Giedraitis finished the game with 13 points, Karolis Lukosiunas and Ignas Brazdeikis ended up with 12 apiece, as Isaiah Taylor scored 9 points, all from long range.
