#ZalgirisClassics invites to relive Arvydas Sabonis’ record night 1

Zalgiris Kaunas recently introduced a new series called #ZalgirisClassics, where fans are invited to relive some legendary games in Zalgiris’ history. Every Sunday and Thursday we dive into a memorable game from Zalgiris TV’s archive.

The 2003-2004 season will go down in Zalgiris history as the year of Arvydas Sabonis’ return. The legendary big man came back to Kaunas to finish his illustrious career and helped guide Zalgiris to a Top 8 finish, while earning MVP honors.

During the first game of the Round of Top 16, Zalgiris matched up against Ulker Istanbul, where Ibrahim Kutluay, Petar Naumoski and Joseph Blair played key roles.

The battle between Sabonis and Blair, who was named the MVP of the 2002-2003 EuroLeague regular season, was the highlight of the night. The American corralled a 12-point and 12-rebound double-double, but was overwhelmed by Sabas on the other end of the court.

Arvydas Sabonis scored 25 points and tore down 16 rebounds, as his efficiency rating of 47 put him in fourth position in the EuroLeague record books.
