Tautvydas Sabonis: “I want to continue working and prove that I can help” 0

After hanging them up and ending his professional basketball career last year, Tautvydas Sabonis joined the coaching staff of Zalgiris-2. This year, the young specialist is ready to take a step forward, as he’ll be making his way to the main team of Zalgiris.

The 28-year-old made an impression on everyone around him, as he worked with the young players on the Zalgiris reserves team, and will be responsible for player development of the main roster.

Tautvydas joined Zalgiris TV and shared his happiness about making the tough decision to switch to coaching, but also admitted he didn’t expect that quick of a rise in position.

“If we’re being honest, it could be one of my best years in the last five or 10 years. It was really nice working with kids, I loved it. It’s a new page in my life and it left a great impression on me. If you asked me two years ago, if this is how it’s going to go down, then definitely not. I’d like to believe I’m doing a good job, and the people around me are happy with it. I want to continue working and prove that I can help.”

Sabonis will join a revamped Zalgiris coaching staff headed by Martin Schiller. According to the big man, the Austrian coach left a great impression on him during their first conversations.

“I talked to Martin on the phone two or three times already. It was really nice talking to him, and I’m looking forward to working with him and learning from him, seeing his philosophy and system. He brings a lot of positivity. He’s excited to bring his philosophy, and I think he has a lot to prove here.”
