Zalgiris Kaunas recorded their second victory in the Betsafe-LKL Championship. Andrea Trinchieri’s team defeated CBet Jonava 93-72 (22-20, 24-16, 26-19, 21-17) on the road.
Deividas Sirvydis opened the game with 2 three-pointers, Edgaras Ulanovas and Matt Mitchell scored from mid-range, and Sirvydis hit his third three-pointer, 13-10. Ignas Brazdeikis scored after a dribble, Dovydas Giedraitis added a layup with a foul, and Sylvain Francisco’s and Laurynas Birutis’ free throws ended the first quarter, 22-20.
Francisco found Birutis with a sharp pass under the basket and hit a three-pointer himself, 27-20. Birutis scored twice after passes from Brady Manek and Francisco, but the hosts managed to turn the score around, 31-32. Then Tyrone Wallace, who made his Zalgiris debut, scored 7 points, Arnas Butkevicius sank free throws, Sirvydis broke through, and Ulanovas finished the second quarter with 4 points, 46-36.
The third period started with a show by Francisco and Birutis, who combined for 13 points, while Manek and Mitchell added a two-pointer apiece, and Zalgiris pulled away 63-46. Sirvydis scored from long range after a pass from Ulanovas, and Alen Smailagic was rocking under the basket, 72-55.
Smailagic dunked after a nice pass from Sirvydis, while Wallace scored his 10th point also assisting to Manek in the fastbreak, 79-59. Brazdeikis scored 9 points in a row, Smailagic recorded a double-double, and Brazdeikis scored the last points for Zalgiris, 93-72.
Birutis was the best scorer for visitors with 15 points, Sirvydis scored 14, Brazdeikis - 13, Francisco - 11, Wallace - 10 points, while Smailagic had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
