On Monday, FK Kauno Zalgiris departed from Kaunas Airport on a charter flight to the Faroe Islands, where they will face the country's champions, Klaksvík, on Tuesday evening in the first leg of the second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League.

The Kauno Zalgiris squad is staying in the Faroese capital, Tórshavn, but the match will be played at Djúpumýra Stadium in Klaksvík, the country's second-largest town. The team also held its final training session there on the eve of the game.

"We knew there could be problems landing because of the fog, but everything went smoothly. The flight took around three hours, and we're happy to be here. The weather has been a bit of a surprise – just as I was surprised by the rain 20 times a day when I first arrived in Lithuania. Normally, the weather here changes very quickly, but we'll be satisfied if it's the same on match day as it is today," said Kauno Zalgiris head coach Zeljko Sopić.

According to the coach, Klaksvík's biggest strengths are their aerial play and set pieces.

"They're a team that plays like many Scandinavian sides. They send a lot of long balls toward the target man and are top in set pieces. If we want a good result, we have to keep the ball on the ground and play our own football. Against an opponent like this, you can't play 'boom-boom' football – that wouldn't be easy for us," Sopić said when assessing the opposition.

In the first qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League, Klaksvík eliminated Luxembourg champions Atert Bissen.

"The Luxembourg side controlled possession better, but Klaksvík were much stronger in duels and in winning second balls. However, whenever their opponents kept the ball on the ground, Klaksvík had problems. We have to show character and demonstrate that we've come here to win," the head coach concluded.
