Just before the start of the UEFA Champions League qualifying campaign, FK Kauno Žalgiris have strengthened their squad with a new signing. Lithuanian international Vykintas Slivka will now represent the Lithuanian champions.

Kauno Žalgiris and Slivka have reached an agreement on a contract that will run until the end of 2028.

The long-time member of the Lithuania men's national team returns to his homeland after nearly 15 years playing abroad. The midfielder left his hometown club in Panevėžys to join the Juventus academy system in Turin in 2012 and has spent his entire professional career with clubs in various foreign countries.

In Italy, the Panevėžys-born midfielder represented not only Juventus but also Modena and Ascoli. He also played for Gorica in Slovenia, Den Bosch in the Netherlands, Hibernian in Scotland, Lamia and Apollon Smyrnis in Greece, and most recently for Sagan Tosu in Japan.

"We are always keeping an eye on Lithuanian players and want them to be part of our team, so we are delighted that Vykintas chose our club for his return to Lithuania. He is a player with extensive international experience, and we expect him to bring quality to the middle of the pitch," Kauno Žalgiris sporting director Darius Šinkūnas told Žalgiris.lt.

The 31-year-old Slivka has made 74 appearances for the Lithuania national team, making him the sixth-most capped player in the country's history. He has scored three goals while representing Lithuania.

At Kauno Žalgiris, Slivka will wear the No. 14 shirt.
