Zalgiris defeats Azovmash behind Pocius 0
Martynas Pocius scored 28 points as Zalgiris Kaunas finished the VTB United League with an 84:75 victory on the road against Azovmash Mariupol.
Pocius scored 4 of 4 from downtown to bring his tally to 28, Arturas Milaknis made 5 of 8 long-range attempts and finished with 15. Sarunas Vasiliauskas added 11, as Mirza Begic, Tadas Klimavicius and Adas Juskevicius ended the game with 6 each.
Hasan Rizvic scored a team-high 20, Eric Daniels added 17 and 8 rebounds, Bogdan Bayda collected 11 while Frederick House had 10.
The Azovmash Lithuanian Rolandas Jarutis scored 8 points, missing all 4 three-point attempts, got 3 rebounds and made 5 assists.
The hosts started the game better and lead 14:8 in the middle of the first quarter. One Zalgiris turnover after another allowed Azovmash get ahead by even more and the difference reached double-digits with a made shot from Erik Daniels.
Pocius scored 13 of his points in the third quarter and Zalgiris went ahead 59:58 after a basket from Mirza Begic. The last period of the game started with the Ukrainian side in front (63:62), but Begic scored two points, Arturas Milaknis and Pocius hit a triple each to give Zalgiris a five point advantage (70:65).
With two minutes on the clock Azovmash regained the lead, but this was answered by two three-pointers, one each from Siim-Sander Vene and Pocius.
The hosts could not keep the ball and kept turning it over to let Tadas Klimavicius and Mantas Kalnietis cap the game off with two enormous dunks.
