Zalgiris‘ quiz delights with the 100-year veteran and the Golden Boy 0

Zalgiris greets the double EuroLeague week with an elated mood, as Zalgiris TV took the players for a spin with a quiz on how well they know their teammates.

The team’s newcomers – Zach LeDay, Nigel Hayes, Martinas Geben – and Thomas Walkup, in his second year with the team, took on an array of questions of various difficulty.

The toughest cookie to crack was Paulius Jankunas longevity, as nearly all tried and failed to guess how many LKL trophies the captain has earned in his tenure with Zalgiris. Quite a few of them, including Walkup had jokes about the ancient age of the man himself.

“He’s been playing in the league for 100 years!”

Aussie big man Jock Landale tried keeping a straight face, as he took his first guess.

“He’s been playing for probably 40 years now, so I’d go with 40, 40 times.”

Zalgiris players couldn’t quite pin the finger on who just had a wedding, either. Given a little nudge, they finally got it right, answering that both Arturas Milaknis and Martinas Geben took their vows this summer.

Another troublemaker was Zalgiris’ mascot Zalgirinis, as nobody could seem to remember his name. Nigel Hayes had possibly the best answer, as he brought out his Lithuanian language skills and tried to improvise.

“Drakonas (dragon)… He looks like a mix between Martinas and Jock.”

The final question also left the players puzzled for a second, as they were asked who rocked the Golden Boy nickname. While the Lithuanians would quickly pull the trigger, naming Sarunas Jasikevicius, Zalgiris’ foreigners needed a nudge in the right direction after claiming the nickname for themselves.

“Me! Come on now. But if it’s not a player, it’s Saras.” – said Jock Landale.

Nigel Hayes had a similar response, as he raised smiles all around.

“Golden Boy? Probably me. That’s a wonderful name! Sarunas, that’s Golden Boy? Did he keep the nickname?”
