Zalgiris Kaunas has taken another step towards the new season’s line-up puzzle. The team management has signed a new 2-year contract with forward Arnas Butkevicius.
The 32-year-old 197 cm tall player, who plays in Kaunas from the 2022-2023 season, shared his impressions with Zalgiris TV and was happy to sign the contract.
“I feel great, my emotions are the best. My family and I talked before the signing - you would never think in your life that you would be able to spend so much time in Zalgiris and reach such a level in such a historic club. It’s unbelievable,” Butkevicius explained.
Playing his third season in the EuroLeague with Zalgiris, the Klaipeda native was very liked by the coaching staff and fans for his dedicated defense and commitment on the court. Butkevicius was also included in the list of candidates for the EuroLeague’s best defensive player title this season.
“We all saw how important Arnas was both on the court and in the locker room. We also felt Butkevicius’ desire to stay in Zalgiris and continue to achieve the club’s goals together. We believe that Arnas will continue to show exceptional fighting spirit and dedication and will make a significant contribution to Zalgiris’ development," said Zalgiris GM Gediminas Navickas.
Butkevicius also mentioned the people he met in the organization as one of the main factors for him to continue representing Kaunas.
“One of the key things was that I knew where I was staying and what kind of people I would be working with. What I found when I came to Zalgiris was already at the highest level. And yet, little by little, they keep finding things to add. Even though I didn’t have any kind of observation when I came here, from the very first day - just come, show willingness and work. The specialists are top-notch, all the treatments are provided, I can’t imagine what else could be better. This was a huge incentive to stay in Kaunas”, - concluded the forward.
