Zalgiris Kaunas (21-2) extended their winning streak in the Betsafe-LKL Championship. Andrea Trinchieri’s team defeated Neptunas Klaipeda (9-14) by 80-67 (20-14, 14-22, 28-15, 18-16) on the road.
Deividas Sirvydis scored the game’s first basket, Laurynas Birutis added a free throw, Isaiah Wong broke through under the basket, and Dovydas Giedraitis made a three-pointer to make it 10-5. Edgaras Ulanovas made mid-range shot with a foul and assisted Bryant Dunston in the next possession, 15-7. Sylvain Francisco converted free throws and Wong scored from long range to lead 20-14 after 10 minutes.
The second quarter started with a mid-range jumper by Matt Mitchell, Dunston blocked a three-pointer and scored from under the basket, 24-16. Ignas Brazdeikis made a three-pointer, Mantas Juzenas hit a free throw, and Giedraitis fooled his opponent for a layup, 30-26. In the remaining almost 5 minutes of the second quarter, only a free throw by Ulanovas and a three-pointer by Giedraitis reached the goal, so the opponents took the lead with the buzzer-three, 34-36.
Giedraitis made a layup, but Neptunas answered for 37-41 lead. Francisco scored 5 points in a row, Birutis corrected his missed shot and Sirvydis added 4 points, 48-45. Francisco scored 5 more points, Mitchell hit a mid-range jumper, Brazdeikis made a three-pointer, Wong made a free throw, Brazdeikis connected from the corner, 62-51.
Mitchell hit a mid-range jumper, Giedraitis snuck under the basket, and Mitchell and Francisco made three-pointers to increase the lead, 72-58. Birutis dunked after a pass from Francisco, Giedraitis scored 2 more points and Wong finished the game with 4 points, 80-67.
Giedraitis and Francisco led the scoring with 15 points each. Wong added 11 points in the win.
