Zalgiris Kaunas (32-2) took home another victory in the Betsafe-LKL Championship. Andrea Trinchieri’s team defeated Wolves Twinsbet Vilnius (18-16) by 89-75 (21-20, 29-16, 23-16, 16-23) at Zalgirio Arena.
Alen Smailagic started the game with a three-pointer and a free throw, Bryant Dunston added two points from the free throw line and Sylvain Francisco scored nine points to make it 16-9. Edgaras Ulanovas made his free throws and Deividas Sirvydis hit a three-pointer, but the difference was reduced to 21-20.
The second quarter started with a three-pointer by Bryant Dunston, who later dunked it twice and converted a free throw, a two-pointer by Matt Mitchell, and Ignas Brazdeikis added five points to make it 36-26. Sirvydis, Brazdeikis and Isaiah Wong scored three points each, and at the end of the quarter Smailagic tallied five points in a row, 50-36.
After the break, Brazdeikis scored six points, Francisco and Smailagic added two points each, and Arnas Butkevicius connected on a three-pointer, 63-44. Francisco converted two more free throws, Laurynas Birutis scored five points and Dovydas Giedraitis made a three-pointer, 73-52.
Ulanovas scored six points in a row, then Birutis finished two consecutive possessions with dunks, 83-61. Wong broke the scoring drought that lasted almost three minutes with free throws and a two-pointer, while Mitchell added two more points, 89-75.
Brazdeikis led the balanced scoring with 14 points. Francisco had 13 points and 7 assists. Smailagic scored 12 and Dunston 10 points respectively.
