Head coach Petrovic believes in his team 0
Tuesday’s game against Nevezis in Kedainiai will mark the official start of the season for Zalgiris Kaunas. The club’s new head coach Aco Petrovic spoke about the new season live on Zalgiris’ radio and shared his thoughts about the upcoming season.
“The mood inside the team is fairly good. We haven’t been playing for the last ten days, but had good practices during the time, so players have missed playing actual basketball. We’re still going to play two friendly games in the end of the week, but have to prepare for the first official games against Nevezis and Alytus,” said Zalgiris new coach Aco Petrovic.
Zalgiris coach admitted that even though the domestic season starts tomorrow, the club will be more concentrated on Euroleague.
“We’re trying to gain our form and be at the top of our capabilities with the start of Euroleague. Five players just returned from the Lithuanian national team and haven’t been working with the rest of the team for that long,” the coach said.
Coach Petrovic thinks that Zalgiris roster has improved in the summer market and points out Paulius Jankunas, DeJuan Collins and Tomas Delininkaitis as the key additions.
“The team held its core from last season. It’s great that Paulius Jankunas returned to Kaunas – he knows what this team is capable and understands the guys in the team,” said Petrovic. “The back-court of the team is much-improved with the addition of DeJuan Collins and Tomas Delininkaitis. You could definitely say that the team gained strength comparing to last year.”
The coach admits that the goals are set high for the club, but he will do everything that he can to accomplish them with Zalgiris.
“We want to win the Lithuanian championship and perform well in Europe as well – we’ll see what we can accomplish. It’s going to be a tough group in Euroleague, I think that Khimki should be the team that advances from the qualifying round. It’s going to be hard, but we’ll battle for that Top 16 place. I’m sure that we’ll play better and better with time and reach our goals,” Aco Petrovic ended.
