Maalik Wayns joins Zalgiris at point 0

Zalgiris Kaunas found a new point guard in Maalik Wayns, who penned a one-year contract with the Lithuanian powerhouse on Wednesday.

Wayns (1.85 meters, 23 years old) arrives from Los Angeles Clippers of the NBA, where he averaged 3.3 points and 1.2 rebounds in 6 games, in his second stint with the team. Wayns started the season in Los Angeles and moved to Rio Grande Valley of the D-League, where he averaged 12.3 points and 4.2 assists in 11 games before re-joining the Clippers.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to play for Zalgiris, the team with rich history. I know that Lithuania is a basketball country. I come here to win. I am looking forward to compete in the Euroleague” – said Wayns.

He has also played for Philadelphia of the NBA and has been a member of the USA U18 national team.

“We are very happy that Maalik’s future will be in Zalgiris. He led his team very well during the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, being really unselfish and distributing the ball well,” Zalgiris general manager Paulius Motiejunas said. “He was a leader in college and has NBA experience, so we believe he can take all that to Europe.”

Wayns replaces Justin Dentmon in Zalgiris. Dentmon decided to continue his career in China last week.
