Zalgiris signs NBA starting-five player Anderson from 76ers! 0

Lithuanian League champion Zalgiris Kaunas added some firepower on the perimeter by signing swingman James Anderson to a one-year contract on Tuesday.

Anderson (1.98 meters, 25 years old) arrives from Philadelphia 76ers of the NBA to make his pro debut in Europe. Last season, he averaged 10.1 points and 28.9 minutes over 80 games, 62 of those as a starter, for Philadelphia.

“I am excited. Zalgiris is one of the top teams in Europe. I know that Maalik Wayns also signed here, so I am looking forward to the new season” – said Anderson.

Zalgiris GM Paulius Motiejunas was happy with the new signing: “We managed to sign rather young but already experienced player. Zalgiris is a great highway for USA players to reach the best potential in the Euroleague. We are delighted that players see these opportunities and join Zalgiris”.

Anderson had previously played for San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets of the NBA, averaging 29 appearances, 10.8 minutes and 3.7 points between 2010 and last season.

He scored a career-high 36 points for Philadelphia against his old team, Houston, last November. Prior to the NBA, Anderson spent three years at Oklahoma State University and was a consensus second-team all-American choice in the last of those.
