Lekavicius leads Zalgiris over Prienai in LKL 0

Zalgiris Kaunas extended its Lithuanian League winning streak to 14 games and remained atop of the standings with 89-73 road win over Prienai on Sunday. The defending champ improved to 15-1 record, and to 9-0 away from home.

In a game that tipped off less than 48 hours after dramatic clinching a Euroleague Top 16, and despite playing without James Anderson, the reigning Lithuanian champs led from start to finish and kept control throughout 40 minutes.

Zalgiris opening the game with a 15-3 lead behind Tomas Dimsa and Arturas Gudaitis, and Arturas Milaknis nailed a triple for 24-10 late in the first. In the second, Darius Songaila scored 6 points, Paulius Jankunas contributed in keep the lead mostly in double figures, and Milaknis hit a three-pointer to make it 46-37 at halftime.

The hosts did stay in range, however, and closed within 56-60 in the third quarter but Zalgiris did not allow a single point in the last 3 minutes of the third, and only a single free throw in almost 4 minutes of the fourth quarter, and used a 14-1 run during which Lukas Lekavicius hit a pair of triples for 74-57, breaking the game open.

Lekavicius finished with 19 points on 4-for-6 from downtown to pace the winners. Gudaitis had 13 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks, while Milaknis also netted 13 in victory. Will Cherry filled the stat-sheet with 9 points, 7 rebounds and 7 steals.

Ovidijus Varanauskas scored 23 and Arnas Labuckas 20 for Prienai in defeat.
