Zalgiris Talent Camp brings young players together 0

Last week Zalgiris held the Zalgiris Talent Camp for the top 14-16 year-old basketball prospects from all over Lithuania.

The Lithuanian champions hand-picked the talented youth and had Zalgiris’ secondary team coaches Mantas Sernius and Darius Sirtautas working with them, while the long-time captain of the main team Paulius Jankunas joined them in one of the practices, as he shared his experience on the court.

Mantas Sernius talked about the specifics of the camp, and how closely Zalgiris has been monitoring the hand-picked players:

“The players came here with terrific recommendations from their coaches. We also talked to the federation, listened to recommendations from Zalgiris basketball school coaches. Youth national teams are waiting for these players and we’ve brought together the best of them all. We’ve also got one talented Estonian joining us. We want to work closely with kids of this age, challenge them and evaluate their potential – that’s the main idea of this camp.”

He also mentioned that this, in a way, is a tryout for the Zalgiris youth team, as some of the players will receive an invitation to join the green-and-white system.

“This on it’s own is a tryout and a selection process, as a lot of these players will be invited to join the Zalgiris system. Some of them will be playing in the Regional basketball league (RKL), others will be invited to the National basketball league (NKL). It’s the right way to go – we want to meet and know the players from a very early age. It’s very important to guide them in the right direction, to notice the late-bloomers and give them a chance.”

Balpol and one of the largest licensed non-banking financial companies Orion joined Zalgiris as sponsors and helped execute a top-quality camp for the prospects.
