Zalgiris Kaunas reduced the EuroLeague quarterfinal series deficit to 1-2 on Wednesday evening after securing their first win against Fenerbahce Istanbul. Already this Friday, the team will play Game 4, and ahead of the matchup, Arnas Butkevicius shared his thoughts on the key aspects of the game.
“We had a difficult stretch from the middle of the first quarter to the middle of the second quarter, when we couldn’t make shots despite creating good opportunities. That slowed us down offensively, and defensively it was a bit challenging to slow down their ball movement. Their smaller players were attacking the paint effectively and creating chances, but we managed to limit that better in the second half,” said the Zalgiris forward.
Butkevicius also emphasized the importance of rebounding in turning the game around.
“Of course, in a close game where every point matters, every extra possession and every rebound becomes extremely important. In general, it’s a basic principle in basketball — the team that controls the rebounds usually controls the game,” he explained.
The forward also spoke about the key factors for the upcoming game.
“Teamwork is crucial. You can immediately feel when we’re all on the same page, doing what we’ve agreed on, without anyone stepping out of the system or making unnecessary mistakes, because then the whole structure falls apart. That’s the most important thing – to stay focused for all 40 minutes, help each other, and fight,” Butkevicius added.
Finally, he highlighted the atmosphere during the first playoff game in Kaunas.
“It was fantastic. We really missed that energy from the fans. Their support makes a huge difference, and it’s great that the atmosphere is so impressive and motivating,” he said.
Game 4 between Zalgiris and Fenerbahce will tip off on Friday at 8:00 PM.
