Zalgiris Kaunas will begin the final and most important stage of the Lithuanian Basketball League season this Sunday. A best-of-five finals series will be played against Juventus Utena, who have reached this stage for the first time in club history.
Ahead of the matchup, Zalgiris captain Edgaras Ulanovas shared his thoughts, discussing the team’s preparation and the threat posed by their opponents.
“Of course, we only recently found out who our opponent would be, so the first part of preparation was more about physical recovery while also doing some light preparation. Today will likely be the main day when we start focusing specifically on Utena. Overall, it’s a good team. You can see they’re in a strong emotional rhythm, playing well and have really come together as a group, especially in the final stage of the season. That emotional state is clearly strong, and that makes them a very dangerous team,” said Ulanovas.
The Zalgiris captain also reflected on Juventus’ historic run.
“Yes, if they beat the second-place team in the standings, then why not go even further. I wouldn’t call it a huge surprise that they made it through the semifinals. They also played a solid game against us late in the regular season here in Kaunas. You could see that the team had changed. They became more physical and moved the ball better. The bigger surprise was probably the quarterfinals rather than the semifinals,” he explained.
Finally, the captain addressed the fans, inviting them to support Zalgiris at the arena, where the first game of the series will take place this Sunday, while Game 3 will be played on Nemunas Island on Friday, June 12. Fans are also invited to purchase a ticket bundle for both Finals games in Kaunas, with prices starting from just €15.
