Zalgiris Kaunas will continue to be represented by Azuolas Tubelis, who completed his debut EuroLeague season with the club.

The 24-year-old forward has signed a new contract under a 2+1 structure. The deal runs through the end of the 2028-29 season, with the first two seasons guaranteed and an option to activate a buyout clause before the third year. The contract also includes a clause allowing Tubelis to leave for the NBA in the summer of 2027 by exercising a buyout option.

In the recently concluded EuroLeague season, Tubelis impressed fans not only with his powerful dunks but also as the team’s third-leading scorer and most efficient contributor, averaging 12.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and a 12.7 performance index rating (PIR).

In the EuroLeague playoffs, Tubelis stood out as the most consistent player on the team and elevated his performance even further, averaging 17.2 points and 18.2 PIR per game.

“I’m very happy to have extended my contract. Zalgiris provides me with everything – the arena and overall environment are top level. Everything is in place. You just need to go out and work on the court, and I think I did a pretty good job this year. Many people were satisfied with my performances, so I’m looking forward to staying here for at least a couple more years,” said Tubelis.

Zalgiris president Paulius Jankunas also shared his thoughts on the extension.

“The main idea is that we want to keep a player like Azuolas for as long as possible. We’ve seen his entire journey and how much he has grown since the start of the season, not only as a player but also as a person. I believe he has tremendous potential and will continue to improve, becoming even more solid with experience. I see him at Zalgiris for a long time and as one of the team’s leaders,” Jankunas commented.
