Zalgiris Insider talks to Valencia’s Martin Hermannsson 0

Icelandic and Lithuanian basketball have never really had too many parallels – while the orange virus is still making its way to the hearts of fans in one country, the other has years of achievements on the international stage. Nevertheless, Valencia’s Martin Hermannsson, who enjoys a close connection to Lithuanians, is a pleasant exception.

Having played with and become friends with Rokas Giedraitis in ALBA Berlin during their two seasons together, Hermannsson was the latest person to join the Zalgiris Insider show #EuroLeagueTalks, and shared a bit about the rising interest in basketball in Iceland and his connection to Lithuania.

“I think Lithuanians and Icelandic people have some sort of connection. For example, me and Rokas Giedraitis immediately found a connection. We talk to each other every day and he’s a friend for life. I have a dream to visit Vilnius and see if it’s really that great of a place as he says. He also said Siauliai is the best place in the world, so I have to make sure of that.”

During the interview that’s available to Zalgiris Insider MVP plan subscribers, Hermannsson also talked about the tough loss against Zalgiris and Marius Grigonis’ game-winner, that eventually cost them a ticket to the EuroLeague Playoffs, shared some details about the beginning of his career, and the current EuroLeague season, while also touching upon his compatriot Elvar Fridriksson, who was recently named the MVP of the Lithuanian Basketball League.
